George Henry Fosbroke Power

Lieutenant George Henry Fosbroke Power Middlesex Regt was the younger son of Lieutenant Colonel Sir D’Arcy Power KBE FRCS RAMC and Lady Eleanor Power of 10A Chandos Street, Cavendish Square, London.

The British Medical Journal on 5 July 1919 recorded that he was a surgeon at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and had been reported wounded and missing at the second battle of Ypres on 8 May 1915, and was at the time of publication presumed killed on that date, aged 21.

He was educated at Merchant Taylors’ before going up to Oxford, where he was a commoner of New College and President of the University Fencing Club.

He was initiated into the Apollo whilst up at Oxford.

He was commissioned into the 6th (Reserve) Bttn of there Middlesex Regiment on 15 August 1914 and was attached to the 3rd Bttn at the time of his death.

He is remembered in St Lawrence Church, Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire and commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
