William Rhys Williams

Dr William Rhys Williams was the Founding Senior Warden of the Lodge.

He was born on 29 July 1837 in Nottingham to John and Anne Calthrop. He went to Merchant Taylors’ School. Like his fellow Founder Trollope he was a medical doctor.

He was an initiate of Stuart Lodge No 540 in Bedfordshire alongside fellow Founder Frederick Vialls and later joined the Red Apron Old Union Lodge No 46 who nominated him as a Grand Steward in 1870 after which he joined Grand Stewards’ Lodge. He was appointed AGDC by Grand Lodge.
