Henry Robert Summers was born 25 July 1865 the son of a draper, Henry Summers and his wife Elizabeth in Redhill.
He left Merchant Taylors’ in 1881 and worked for some time in the City before joining the Organising Staff of the NSPCC. He joined Commercial Intelligence Brand of the Board of Trade in 1915, before being appointed Secretary of the British Engineers’ Association in 1917.
He was also a rifle volunteer, a precursor to the Territorial Army, being commissioned into the 5th (West) Middlesex Battalion in 1900.
He was Master of this Lodge in 1892.
