Arthur Bernard Barrett, was born 8 March 1884 the son of the Solicitor Joseph Barrett and his wife Louisa Barrett (née Roper). He was one of 6 children, of whom 4 boys survived to adulthood. All went to Merchant Taylors’. One of these was the own tennis player Herbert Roper Barrett (sometimes ‘Roper-Barrett’).
He played for the XV in his last year before leaving in 1901. He went into mining and was at one time an overseer of a mineworks.
He joined the HAC like many of his brethren, and commission he served as a Rail Transport Officer and with the Hampshires.
