Alfred Decimus Hays was born 19 June 1880 the son of a Music Publisher, Alfred Hays and his wife Caroline. He was the younger brother of Herbert Bosworth Hays, an OMT and a fellow Lodge member.
he was capped by the XI in both 1896 and 1897 and by the XV in 1896-97 before leaving in 1897. He went into business in London and ran his own eponymous business Alfred Hays & Company.
He joined the HAC and was commissioned. The Great War saw him attached as a subaltern to the RASC, and he was wounded in action.
He was a clubbable man, a member of the Sports Club in St. James’s Square, now the Est India Sports and Public Schools Club.
